Here is our happy little clan dressed
in our Medieval garb. No, I am not pregnant in this photo, it's just
the way the dress hangs without a belt. So allow me introduce myself
and my husband. I am Catherine, a wife and obvious by he photo, a mother of three... er two, I sometimes confuse the big one for one of my children. While I do not have a degree in History per se, I am finishing an MA in English Literature and did my thesis on Robyn Hode and focused on earlier literature. Once we are geographically settled and the children are older, I plan to earn a Ph.D. in Medieval History. The smiling man is my husband Paul. He also does not currently possess a degree in history, but that should soon change. He did minor in Medieval/Renaissance history as an undergraduate and we took many courses together on ancient history. He is currently studying towards an MA in Ancient Myth and Society. So hopefully soon, one of us will have a legitimate degree in history. While Paul is a part of this podcast, you are not likely to hear his voice. He will be behind the scenes, giving me subjects to podcast and helping with the research. It's a cross between his inclination to become goofy when I ask him to speak and his lack of interest in public speaking. Along with our love of history, we have had the opportunity to live in Ancient and Medieval lands. As a soldier in the US Army, Paul's duty stations have been in South Korea and Germany. In both locations there are numerous structures that remind us of the past and there are wonderful museums as well, to teach us about our ancestors and their neighbors. Big career decisions are in store for Paul in the next few months and this summer will take us somewhere new. Whether it's back to our beloved home in the frozen tundras of Oswego, NY (yes, the same Oswego that just had a record breaking snowstorm) or off to England, we don't know. In either case, we will be happy and continue our study of history, be it from touring actual sites and viewing artefacts, or just acquiring more knowledge from books, history will be learned. The two younger members of our happy clan are our son and daughter, Paul II (yes, Paul II, NOT Jr.) and Aveline, or as we call them, Paulchen and Ava. Unfortunately they are still at an age, where the only history they are learning and retaining, is what happened the day before. Though Paulchen is showing an eagerness in learning German. If he keeps this up, I will need to study harder to keep ahead of him and properly teach him. Now if Paul will just work as diligintly on his Latin and teach his son. Ava is still learning the basics of language and hasn't gone much beyond "Yes", "Turtle" (her brother's favorite toy) and "Socks and Shoes" (this comes out more like "suh-soos"). In time she will join our scholarly, or as some might say, nerdy ranks. |
