Glitter Girl

I went to work today with the children.  We had a large order come into the store and I wanted to place everything on the shelves.  I was inventorying and pricing with Sarah, when I decided to peak in on the children.  They were behind the craft counter, playing.  As I rounded the corner, my breath sucked in VERY audibly.  Sarah heard me and came over to check.  She had a similar reaction.

Ava was sitting on the floor and Paulchen was standing behind her.  He had the green glitter and was shaking it all over her.  SHE WAS COVERED!  He was promptly slapped on the hand and I took her outside to shake off the glitter.  Clouds of it poofed from her outfit and hair and she was STILL covered in glitter.  I tried to rinse it out of her hair in the sink at work, but to no avail.  When we came home I finally treated it like cradle cap; oiling her hair and combing.  I repeated this process numerous times and washed her hair.  I was able to get most of the glitter out.  The rest however will just come out over time.

As much of a pain as the glitter was; I hate glitter, always have, Ava was SO adorable!  Her hair and face were covered in green glitter.  She really did look like a little pixie or fairy.  It was one of those times I seriously regretted not having my camera.  if glitter weren't such a pain in the rear, I would almost consider covering her again just for a photo.  Oh well.

Flour and Sugar and Cheese, Oh My!

Today was Enough to put any parent over the edge.  I came out of our bathroom and saw Paulchen eating an orange.  I commented on that and he said "Orange" in confirmation.  Then I noticed some white spots on the floor and thought, "Please, not the formula powder again."  I went to the kitchen and along the way found numerous white prints and a massive clump of white on the living room carpet.  I stepped into the kitchen and froze at the sight.  All over the kitchen was...

5lbs flour

5 lbs wheat flour

5 lbs sugar

2.5 lbs rock salt

.5 lbs Munster cheese

To give Paulchen credit, there was a bowl in the middle of the floor filled with flour, so I think he was trying to bake at first.  It was after he didn't get anywhere with baking that he and Ava went crazy.  I'm still finding dots of flour all around the apartment, where he must have thrown it.

What made the situation even worse, was that massive mess was the final straw for our vacuum cleaner.  So we spent four hours driving down to Kaiserslautern and shopping for a new American vacuum cleaner.  I spent a few extra dollars and bought a Shop Vac.  I made sure I bought something that could handle children.

Beads

I came out of the bathroom this morning and almost had a heart attack.  All over the floor were two small packages of seed beads.  It seems Paulchen got into my needlework bin and found the little bead holder I once tried out.  Fortunately I only put two packs of beads in the holder and found out I didn't like it.  That meant the other 20 packs of beads were still safe.

I sat and tried to pick up every bead.  After almost an hour and just a few of the beads, I cut my losses and vacuumed the rest up.  I couldn't spend the whole day trying to pick up every miniscule bead.

Trucks and Oranges

I was at work today and after a while went to check on Paulchen.  I knew he was back in the office, but I wasn't sure what he was up to.  When I entered the room, I was assaulted with the smell of orange.  I looked at Paulchen and saw he was eating a Clementine orange.  What I couldn't figure out was, where the rind went.  I looked in the garbage and found it.  After watching me once a few days before, Paulchen figured out how to peel the rind and made sure to throw it away.  So now he has his own crate of oranges to snack on.

Later, when we were at home for the night, he was playing with his little wooden blocks.  When I looked over, he smiled up at me and said "Truck".  I looked at his creation and it really did look like a truck.  Not only was he using his imagination, but he put enough effort in to make what he saw.  He's a very clever young man.

Stand Up, Baby Stand Up...

I was half out of it today and trying to take a nap.  Unfortunately Ava was up at the time and I brought her to bed with me.  She however would not let me sleep peacefully.  Every few moments I was woken by a little girl moving around and squealing.  At one point I opened my bleary eyes and saw what looked like Ava standing in the middle of the bed.  Since my vision was blurred from sleep, I couldn't believe it.  I fought off sleep and tried to make my vision as clear as possible.  I wasn't seeing things!

Ava moved about the bed and every few minutes she would stand up for a few moments.  I was so impressed and proud.
